You can select one according to the season you are riding in. Make sure the material offers a full range of motion.

Can you wear sweatpants to horseback riding?

Many people ride in jeans or sweat pants. What you will want to avoid in any case is pants that twist, wrinkle or bunch along the inside of your legs and especially knees. Again, your pants should not be too large as they may catch on something, leading to injury to yourself or your horse.

What is the difference between riding leggings and breeches?

An alternative to jodhpurs and breeches, riding tights are more similar in design to a pair of leggings you might wear at the gym. They are made from a thinner fabric than breeches or jodhpurs, which means they give the rider a closer feel with the horse.

Do I need horse riding pants?

Riding horses puts special demands on clothing, and comfortable, lightweight, fashionable pants are must-haves. But leggings don’t offer the additional features that riding tights and breeches (or even jeans) do once you swing into the saddle.

Should I wear long pants when riding a horse?

Horseback riding in shorts is not recommended. Bare legs will rub against the leather saddle and chafe quickly and the skin is very likely to get pinched between the saddle and the stirrup leather. For the best protection and comfort, it is advised to wear long pants with some stretch.

Can you wear sneakers horseback riding?

Tennis shoes and sneakers are NOT safe for horseback riding. Riding boots must have a distinct heel for safety, and they should full protect your ankle (and often higher) from rubbing or getting pinched on the saddle.

Are jodhpurs or breeches better?

Breeches are considered more formal than jodhpurs, so if you are an adult or long stirrup child, you should be wearing breeches every time in the show ring. Breeches are also more suitable for formal clinics in respect to the clinician with a belt and collared shirt.
